Dalet, a leading provider of solutions and services for media organizations and content professionals, today announced that Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment (MLSE) has expanded its Dalet installation to improve overall fan engagement and experience as well as tap into new markets that ultimately increase revenue. The state-of-the-art Dalet solution features advanced sports production and distribution for MLSE’s four professional sports teams:  Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL), Toronto Raptors (NBA), Toronto FC (MLS) and Toronto Argonauts (CFL).

“Professional sports have always been a ‘now’ focused-type of entertainment and the digital era has brought in a whole new world when it comes to fan engagement,” comments Shannon Hosford, Chief Marketing Officer at MLSE.  “Our number one goal is to provide a unique media experience and deepen fan engagement before, during and after the game. Dalet allows us to focus on telling the timely stories that matter to fans right now – whether it’s creating snackable content from interviews, a look into the lives of players, or deconstructing a spectacular play moments after it happens. It also gives us the ability to reuse that content for a related story in the future; connecting the history of the organization to that ‘now’ moment, which deepens the passion our fans have for their favorite team.”

MLSE captures an enormous amount of content from games, practices, media scrums and interviews, and carefully curates that content for delivery to an omnichannel experience their fans have come to expect. Leveraging Dalet Galaxy, MLSE effectively wrangles content with a detailed metadata scheme that makes it accessible and useable in the moment and in the future.

Rebecca Waters, Manager – Media Asset Management at MLSE

By unifying content ingest, production and distribution into a cohesive ecosystem, Dalet Galaxy enables operations to have greater agility to share content across divisions, bureaus and remote locations, driving the interconnected storytelling they require across the brand.

“Content is becoming increasingly more strategic for sports networks, leagues, teams, venues, and brands to better engage and retain their fans, whether it’s direct or through a network of providers,” states Frederic Roux, Vice President of Sales, Dalet. “To be competitive, you need a supply chain such as Dalet Galaxy that can manage the rich content inventory as it grows, effectively utilize it, and quickly tap into new opportunities when they arise. With its agile orchestration and publishing workflow, Dalet Galaxy manages content lifecycle with the built-in flexibility required to make those critical ‘in the moment’ adjustments that keep fans dialed in at all stages of the game experience.”

About the Dalet Workflow at MLSE

Serving as the core media infrastructure for Scotiabank Arena, the Dalet Galaxy platform facilitates all team content logging, transcoding, fast assembly and multiplatform distribution at the venue. The expansion builds on the successful Dalet archive project implemented in 2012 and connects the entire production and distribution workflow, including the group’s post-production activities via Dalet Xtend for Adobe® Premiere Pro® CC.

Featured in a joint presentation with Diversified Systems in the Dalet Academy Theater (Dalet booth SL4525) during NAB 2015, Dalet SportsPack for teams and venues is an affordable turnkey solution based on the Dalet GalaxyDalet AmberFin and Dalet Brio platforms. A default configuration of the enterprise solution of Dalet Sports Factory, Dalet SportsPack offers predefined modules, workflows and roles with advanced metadata capabilities for optimizing content search, retrieval, production and distribution.

With Dalet Brio, which features advanced ingest and playout capabilities, teams and venues can manage simultaneous and synchronized ingest of multiple camera feeds as well as distribute content to screens located throughout the stadium, all from within the SportsPack solution. Support for industry standard metadata sources, such as SMT, Stats and Sports ML, makes it easy for sports teams to associate player stats, boxscore data, league standings and much more with Dalet SportsPack ingested content.

Operators can log events using the integrated Dalet Sports Logger application complete with customizable sports-oriented buttons and features. The underlying Dalet MAM generates metadata-rich content and associates proxies that are stored centrally in a content catalog for easy search and retrieval. The comprehensive metadata capture means coaches, players and back-office staff can quickly search for content from any camera angle that has been recorded, or is currently recording.

Dalet SportsPack connects postproduction activities directly into the production pipeline via its Dalet Xtend module. Fast search and browse tools give video editors the ability to find key plays based on teams, players, games or any other relevant information. They can quickly create highlight reels using the Dalet OneCut video editor or other well-known non-linear editing systems such as Adobe Premiere®, Avid® or Final Cut Pro®. All the key plays logged by sports loggers appear on the video editing timeline as markers for any video recorded of the event, making a video editor’s job simple and efficient while editing multiple camera angles.

Dalet AmberFin transcoding, a key component of the Dalet SportsPack configuration, allows staff to transcode content in multiple formats including to and from SD, HD, 4K and more, making it possible for teams and venues to distribute content to any broadcast signal as well as to YouTube, Twitter and other social networks. Directly connected to the Dalet MAM content catalog, the integrated Dalet Media Navigator application manages playlist creation and playout to multiple platforms inside and outside the stadium.

Dalet, a leading developer of Media Asset Management (MAM) solutions, software and services for content producers, has announced that sports media company PERFORM has selected Dalet Sports Factory as the end-to-end production and media asset management platform for the company’s multimedia sports content production. PERFORM commercializes multimedia sports content across Internet-enabled digital platforms, driving revenues through a mix of content distribution, advertising and sponsorship, and developing subscription platforms.

Dalet Sports Factory will provide PERFORM with a flexible MAM underlayer that manages the workflows and content for different kinds of services—from ingest through production to multiplatform distribution and archiving. Dalet Brio servers will also be used for ingest. Several Dalet desktop and web-accessible tools will help streamline the production chain.

“Given that we have one of the leading digital sports rights portfolios in the world, we are continually adding more distribution platforms and services. In the past, we’ve had individual teams handle all the efforts related to each service. The Dalet MAM will allow us to have edit tools and access to media at every desk. Production teams will be able to work more collaboratively to create and distribute content more quickly and efficiently—whether it comes from a live event, our global newsgathering, or our production library,” says Howard Kitto, CTO, PERFORM. “Dalet Sports Factory will combine PERFORM’s sports data with metadata management to optimize our content. With our operations spread across the globe, we often need to move files between locations so we really appreciate the remote and multisite capabilities of the system. Dalet Sports Factory will really help PERFORM be more productive.”

Dalet Sports Factory is an open system and provides seamless integrations with broadcast and IT systems, including industry-standard NLEs. PERFORM will use the Dalet Xtend module to easily exchange media and metadata (including parent/child relationships of assets) between the Dalet MAM and NLE systems. In addition to the three Dalet Brio 4 x 1 servers for ingest, other core system components include NetApp storage, Xendata HSM Management Software, Harmonic ProMedia™ Carbon converters, integration with a Qualstar Tape Library as well as integration that pushes content directly to the PERFORM CMS.

“The Dalet MAM is perfectly suited to the ‘content everywhere’ philosophy that is the core of PERFORM’s business,” says Raoul Cospen, Director of Marketing and Business Development, Dalet. “The centralized, shared database facilitates workflow collaboration and the MAM handles multiple sports and different workflows simultaneously. Many back office processes can be automated. Precise metadata management also simplifies the handling of different language versions as well as multiplatform distribution. The integrated easy-to-use tools speed the workflow in fast-turnaround situations like sports. Dalet Sports Factory is highly scalable and very adaptable to new platforms and future technologies.”

Sports Factory is built on Dalet’s robust Media Asset Management platform, which provides lifecycle content and metadata management with comprehensive and customizable data schemes that will allow PERFORM to catalogue and distribute multisport, multilanguage and multi-platform content globally.

About PERFORM

PERFORM is a leader in the commercialization of multimedia sports content across internet-enabled digital platforms. Through production, technical and commercial solutions, PERFORM powers digital channels that distribute content in a number of forms – video, editorial, audio and data – across multiple platforms, to millions of sport fans around the world. Dalet unveils at the IBC 2008 exhibition, held in Amsterdam from September 12 – 16, its next generation Enterprise asset Management workflow capabilities. The Dalet driven workflow showcases new applications for on-air distribution and system-wide management, new server and NLE integrations, as well as advanced production features and supported formats. Designed to facilitate convergence for large-scale, multi-channel broadcasters, the new capabilities deliver integrated and standardized tools for exceptional content production and sharing across concurrent workflows for web, mobile and TV.

“The Dalet Enterprise Media Asset Management platform has tremendous flexibility and scalability. It is purpose-built for large-scale or integration intensive workflows such as the ones deployed at Antena3, Canal Plus or RTBF. Our MAM applications are designed to produce, store, broadcast and repurpose assets across an enormous production chain…customizing the workflow according to the broadcast environment as a whole,” comments Stephane Schlayen, Chief Operating Officer, Dalet SA. “This next Dalet MAM release brings content production into the heart of the workflow and incorporates very clever technology such as the Dalet Dashboard to maximize performance across the entire operation.”

New Dalet Features and Next Generation Enterprise Workflows

The expanded SD and HD format support in Dalet solutions is natively multi-codec and multi-format. Thus broadcasters can manage a wider range of acquisition and legacy source materials making media ubiquitous across the production pipe and available for multi-channel distribution via the new integrated Dalet OnAir application. The improved interoperability with third-party editing systems such as Apple Final Cut Pro via Dalet Xtend and Avid via Marquis as well as advanced production features such as CG’s in the timeline ensure non-linear production workflows do not sit outside the main workflow in isolated pools of production but instead are brought directly into the heart of the content production chain, enabling large-scale operations to be far more efficient at developing and delivering programs. Dalet’s open platform will also showcase new integrations with SeaChange and other hardware vendors giving broadcasters a greater choice of best in class server options for tapeless News, Sports, and Programs workflows.

The next generation Dalet technology also introduces the Dalet Dashboard – a new system-wide mission critical health monitoring and management application. More than a standard monitoring system, Dalet Dashboard utilizes the language and concepts of broadcast as well as IT giving administrators and users the ability to swiftly interpret, analyze and respond with immediate results. This enables broadcasters to closely manage performance adding yet another layer of security to the Dalet driven workflow from the top down.

Dalet today announced the installation of Dalet News Suite at tvOne, the Jakarta based 7/24 news and sports station. tvOne switched to the 7/24 news and sports format back in February 2008; increasing the total number of viewers by covering late-breaking news and popular events on both national and global forums. To support the programming switch, station management added journalists and sports personalities as well as digitalized the entire production and playout infrastructure with Dalet News Suite. The new file-based Dalet workflow is pivotal in tvOne’s fast-paced news production.

“Dalet News Suite is at the core of our news production, from scripting, to editing and playout to archiving,” says Ferry Aryanto, IT Manager, tvOne. “Journalists like the unified, end-to-end workflow; they write stories, preview, select and edit their video and even record voiceovers right at their desktops. Producers can continually update the rundown, confident that Dalet News Suite is syncing the last minute changes with the playout server.”

Dalet News Suite runs on the purpose-built Dalet media asset management platform, DaletPlus. Integrated production and playout capabilities combined with the DaletPlus best of breed file migration and conversion technology offer tvOne an optimal end-to-end media sharing workflow. The installation done by the Dalet Professional Services team in conjunction with Dalet System Integrator Roscor enabled tvOne to execute their program format change on an extremely short timeline.

“The DaletPlus media asset management engine provides a proven platform for highly collaborative and demanding workflows such as news and sports,” comments Arnaud Elnecave, General Manager, Dalet Singapore. “Our Dalet Professional Services team is quite experienced working with journalists, news directors and IT managers to customize the DaletPlus engine and News Suite capabilities to fully optimize the production and playout pipeline according to customer requirements.”

The tvOne facility is equipped with more than 30 Dalet workstations connected via Gigabit Ethernet with a 10TB NetApp device for production storage. Six Dalet Ingest workstations handle incoming video feeds as well as ingest from Panasonic P2 cameras used in field reporting. Other Dalet workstations are used for rundown management, writing text and video production. The majority of the daily news video editing is done at the desktop with Dalet MediaCutter. For the more advanced, promotional editing, Dalet provides easy exchange with Apple Final Cut Pro systems. Native integration with an Omneon Spectrum Media Deck enables precise control over production playout. Dalet also provides seamless integration with the teleprompter and Orad graphics system as well as the station’s Xendata archive system.

About tvOne

Based in East Jakarta, tvOne is a national, privately-owned, commercial television operation. Formerly known as Lativi, the ownership of the channel was transferred in 2007. The name change to tvOne dates to the format change in February 2008 and reflects the emphasis of the combined elements of news, sports and entertainment programming now available on the national channel.

Dalet will showcase at IBC 2007 (Sept. 7-11), its new Dalet Media Library 2.0 release integrated with EVS XT[2] production servers. A turn-key asset management and archiving solution for sports, news and programs, Dalet Media Library 2.0 greatly accelerates broadcast workflows by automatically referencing and transferring media from EVS[2] production servers to an HSM-based distributed digital media library. Dalet Media Library automatically generates low bit rate proxies for on-the-fly shot selection and editing. The seamless ingest to playout workflow is ideal for real-time reporting and playout situations such as sports. The Dalet-EVS powered workflow can be seen at IBC 2007 on the Dalet booth, 9.420.

“We are very pleased to collaborate with a market leading technology provider such as Dalet. The seamless integration between our XT[2] server and Dalet Media Library 2.0 perfectly meets broadcasters’ requirements for integrated workflows between production and archiving,” says Nicolas Bourdon, Marketing & Communications Director of EVS.

“Broadcasters today want the freedom of combining best-of-breed broadcast equipment such as EVS XT[2] production and playout servers within their enterprise back-office; the integration with Dalet Media Library 2.0 does just that: it allows for SD and HD content captured with EVS to be seamlessly migrated to an open media asset management platform,” explains Kevin Savina, Product Director, Dalet.

Dalet Media Library 2.0 is the first asset management and archive system specifically designed for broadcasters. It provides a fast-access digital library that seamlessly integrates with existing systems and video server platforms. This new release provides dramatic improvements in terms of file-based ingest and content distribution as well as support for HD formats.

EVS XT[2] production servers deliver a full range of applications for live/studio production, post content management, and playout. The XT[2] server permanently records cameras on RAID-protected hard disks, ensuring no vital shot is missed. All XT[2] channels are reversible, and can be used as inputs or outputs in SD or HD, depending on the production requirements.
