Dalet, a leading technology and service provider for media-rich organizations, has introduced significant updates across its media logistics, AI-driven production and IP ingest and playout product line. Cloud-native platforms Dalet Flex, Dalet Media Cortex and Dalet Brio support the industry’s continued transition with flexible hybrid and cloud workflows offering media organizations the digital dexterity they require to power work-from-home scenarios. Robust APIs and Integration Panels simplify collaboration with creative tools like Adobe® Premiere® Pro and enterprise applications like Salesforce and Slack, enabling transformative media and business workflows for Dalet customers.

“These new capabilities help our customers to not only hurdle the challenges of a workplace in transition, but be better prepared for any future disruptions,” states Bea Alonso, chief market officer, Dalet. “Our customer experience is at the heart of development and Dalet is delivering highly adaptive tools that improve media workflows and the overall business outcome. We look forward to rolling out these capabilities to our customers and showcasing them in person at CABSAT2021 (stand Z2H) and IBC2021 (suite 1BS21) events as well as virtually at Dalet Connect.”

Single Source of Truth Across the Media Supply Chain

Dalet Flex centralizes production, distribution and archiving workflows into a configurable content management application that makes it easier and less expensive to manage, package and distribute content. Advanced metadata and analytics capabilities, underpinned by a media asset management (MAM) layer and orchestration engine, provide a single source of truth for media assets across the entire media supply chain. The polycloud Dalet Flex solution can be deployed on-premises, in the cloud or as a hybrid solution providing customers choice.

The new FlexXTEND Panel provides enhanced NLE integration with creative tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro. The panel features full search and content discovery with free text searching for general queries; advanced filters and sorting for targeted queries against any metadata, and saved searches for common queries. Users can work with proxy files or source content and have both thumbnail and list view for browsing and searching for content. They also have the ability to preview video, image and audio content before importing to a project. Users can cross-collaborate with FlexMAM and asset collections.

The Dalet product team continues to add important capabilities to Dalet Flex including previewing individually selected audio tracks, increased metadata thesaurus support and bulk metadata changes.

The Path Forward to IP Production Workflows

The Dalet Brio ingest and playout platform provides media companies a smooth transition path to full IP production workflows. Offering maximum flexibility for creating and delivering content across hybrid infrastructures, Dalet Brio supports greater density with more ingest and playout streams, making it even easier and faster for companies to migrate operations to IP without disrupting existing workflows that still rely on SDI. Smarter workload distribution and core optimizations around HD and UHD increase density and propel an overall smoother ingest and playout workflow for high resolution productions.

Augmented User Experience Thanks to AI

The Dalet Media Cortex AI service platform leverages cognitive services and machine learning to offer Dalet customers powerful speech to text, object recognition, facial recognition and automated subtitling services. Recent additions include APIs to translate captions while preserving timing information, eliminating the need to manually re-time translated captions. Additionally, the integrated caption editor now flags infringements around timing, line and character overlaps in real-time allowing users to address visual issues early on in the production process. A complement to both Dalet’s Media Workflows and News solutions, Dalet Media Cortex will also ship as part of the AI-powered newsroom starter pack for the soon-to-be-released Dalet Pyramid – Dalet’s next generation Unified News Operations.

“AI is becoming more pervasive in media production and at Dalet, we continue to integrate across offerings, helping customers do their jobs…better,” Bea adds. “Metadata, which is critical for AI workflows, is at the heart of all our platforms. We have expertise in leveraging it to propel productivity-enhancing AI workflows like real-time recommendation of indexed content for storytellers and automatic creation of subtitles for content destined for global audiences.”

Cloud Inflection Point and the Need for Speed

The need to have remote workforces and business continuity has accelerated the industry’s pace into the cloud. Dalet offerings feature a full cloud or hybrid architecture in terms of compute and storage, allowing customers to design a workflow that eliminates existing technical debt and is more responsive to the fast changing environment.

Bea provides insight on Dalet’s cloud development and customer-centric business models, “All of our development is currently focused on cloud-native solutions, this means they are designed to work with cloud infrastructure from day one. Customers can benefit from Dalet’s hosted offerings, decreasing their infrastructure footprint and lowering their overall TCO while benefiting from the latest functionality.”

The Dalet SaaS business model lets customers consolidate costly systems, abdicating resource intensive maintenance while gaining the flexibility and mobility the cloud offers.

Dalet, a leading technology and service provider for media-rich organizations, today announced that Swiss broadcaster BNJ, which operates four radio stations and associated websites in the Jura Arc region, has chosen Dalet Galaxy five featuring AI-driven search and automated documentation powered by SaaS-based Dalet Media Cortex, as part of its comprehensive multi-year radio business diversification vision. The new modern media infrastructure, powered by Dalet, will provide the Jura Arc’s distinct communities who put increased importance on local news and programming, with significantly more stories and story angles as well as ways to “watch” and engage with favorite radio hosts and programs.

“BNJ is a leader in local news and program production with a deep connection to the Swiss communities it serves. A major part of our growth strategy is to fully embrace the potential of multimedia radio and new digital and social platforms,” states Pierre Steulet, CEO, BNJ. “The Dalet Galaxy five upgrade and AI capabilities of Dalet Media Cortex will enhance our ability to monetize assets through video sharing on social media channels, providing audiences increasingly personalized, curated news and programming content on the medium of their choice. With production, tracking and management of content automated, our journalists, DJs and partners can focus on engaging with their audiences in new ways.”

A Dalet customer since 1999, BNJ will use Dalet Galaxy five to connect its four radio sites (GRRIF, RJB, RTN, and RFJ), creating a centralized topology that enables modern digital-first workflows, archive enrichment, and content recommendations. New editorial, video and advertising production capabilities will allow BNJ to deliver hyper targeted and better curated news, talk shows, podcasts and music programming simultaneously across traditional, digital and social channels, and generate new advertising revenue through “sharable” visual radio.

“Watching radio is a big trend,” states Johann Zemmour, General Manager, EMEA & APAC, Dalet. “Audiences want to see and share popular or controversial clips. Advertisers want their ads at the start of the clip to guarantee exposure to viewers. Dalet’s Visual Radio capabilities brings audiences closer to DJs, journalists, and the stations themselves. It amplifies branding as well as boosting overall loyalty to the station. For localized radio where stations serve specific communities, it reinforces local and regional relevance – a key objective of the BNJ group.”

Dalet Galaxy five provides the workflow orchestration and editorial platform that is equally fluent with video and audio, and fully integrable with studio equipment and services. Video and audio clips can be edited, branded and captioned with lower thirds for immediate upload to social media platforms.

News with More Story Angles and Seamless Remote Production

Mobile and Craft editing tools, Dalet OneCut and Dalet On-the-Go, provide journalists the robustness and flexibility required to assemble long and short form programs and news content for all platforms from anywhere.

Cédric Richard, IT Manager at BNJ, explains the benefits the new AI capabilities will bring to the editorial workflow. “Dalet Media Cortex will automate the indexing and documentation of all new and archived content. Relevant content discovery and timely recommendations will help journalists quickly develop new and evolving story narratives, offering audiences a greater variety of local news and programming as well as more opportunities to engage with journalists on a story of interest.”

Advertising on the Fly and Integrated Music Production Workflows

Under Dalet API integration with the advertising systems BCE StudioTalk and Winpub from Solution Informatique, music, news and promotional content – with associated video – is instantly available for program curation or on the fly with granular control. Users will be able to adjust advertising screens and insert new adverts as relevant events unfold.

BNJ will also rely on Dalet APIs to integrate a wide range of systems and services, including MusicMaster for music programming and Lawo for playout. The unified workflow will streamline processes, offering a smoother experience for DJs, journalists, promoters and audiences alike.

A robust, highly scalable solution that supports rapid media business expansion, Dalet Galaxy five can be deployed on-premises, in the cloud or in a hybrid configuration. To learn more about Dalet solutions for Radio, please visit https://www.dalet.com/solutions/radio-stations/.

Dalet, a leading technology and service provider for media-rich organizations, is responding to the increasing flexibility needs of content producers and distributors, offering customers greater choice when it comes to cloud providers, advanced remote editing and archive options with expanded support for Adobe® Premiere® Pro, Microsoft® Azure, and Spectra® BlackPearl RioBroker.

Shifts in the global workplace over the past two years have led to more geographically dispersed remote employees that still need to connect to headquarters, colleagues, partners and customers worldwide. To achieve the flexibility needed to serve the new remote workforce, content-focused organizations are prioritizing system interoperability. They are turning to open solutions like Dalet Flex, Dalet Galaxy five and Dalet AmberFin that offer easy integration, to create extensible remote workflows that can be customized with best of breed solutions from developers like Adobe, Microsoft and Spectra Logic.

“Dalet has always encouraged our customers and partners to leverage our rich set of APIs to expand their content supply chains while protecting existing investments,” said Bea Alonso, Chief Market Officer at Dalet. “Our goal is to help companies grow for sustained success at their own pace, building long-term relationships and real partnerships with our customers.”

Cloud-based infrastructures and services are becoming more practical for content access, storage and asset management. However, many organizations prefer the flexibility of multi-cloud platforms for optimal levels of security, performance and reliability, as well as business continuity and system redundancy.

Bea adds, “The company will continue to explore integrations with providers of complementary solutions, especially cloud infrastructures and services such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure and most recently, Alibaba Cloud – to strengthen its position as a true multi-cloud support vendor. Dalet Flex was one of the earliest cloud content supply chain solutions, and works seamlessly with these four different cloud infrastructure vendors.”

Dalet FlexMAM seamlessly integrates with archive solutions such as Spectra BlackPearl

The newest integrations include:

  • Extended Adobe Premiere Pro integrations for Dalet Flex and Dalet Galaxy five to support a wider set of editing scenarios, especially remote editing. FlexXTEND, the Dalet Flex panel integrated within Adobe Premiere Pro now includes the ability to collaborate, store and archive Adobe Premiere Pro projects for centralized management.
  • Dalet Galaxy xCloud on Microsoft Azure to support cloud-based radio production workflows and extend Dalet Galaxy xCloud to a wider range of customers.
  • Dalet Flex and Dalet Galaxy five with Spectra Logic’s BlackPearl RioBroker Archive to enhance existing workflow orchestration with expanded archive management capabilities.
  • Other recent Dalet integrations include Dalet Flex with Online Video Platform provider Kinow, Dalet AmberFin Cloud Transcoder Service with InSync FrameFormer and increased device support for Dalet OnePlay including Telemetrics Robotics and Avid Maestro.

Open for Integration

Its systems are designed for seamless third-party compatibility, allowing customers, system integrators and other manufacturers to add new capabilities through open application programming interfaces (APIs), including B2B and B2C REST APIs in Dalet Flex, and software development kits. Dalet, a leading provider of solutions and services for broadcasters and content professionals, will showcase at IBC2019 on stand 8.B77 the new version of Dalet Media Cortex, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered media workflow service that puts content intelligence at the fingertips of media professionals. A Software as a Service (SaaS) platform that enables the orchestration of multiple cognitive services in a pay-as-you-go model, Dalet Media Cortex optimizes content production, management and publishing by enriching content and automating workflows. In addition to the existing Dalet Galaxy five augmented workflows, new Dalet Media Cortex integrations, services and features shown at IBC2019 include smart captioning capabilities, improved news and editorials workflows, and integration with Ooyala Flex Media Platform. The new AI enhancements enable both Dalet Galaxy five and Ooyala Flex media Platform customers to produce and distribute more content faster, to more viewers in less time, as well as open doors to new markets.

“Over the last 18 months, we’ve seen the use of AI transition from experimental trials to real-world deployments. Using AI services to automate repetitive, but essential processes, as well as to augment user workflows with contextual insights and timely recommendations resonates with broadcasters and media companies who have to serve more platforms and more markets with more content than ever before,” explains Raoul Cospen, Director of News Market, Dalet. “The key to success is to combine the right mix of AI engines for a given use case and expected outcome, then automatically curate and present the data generated as simple, contextual insights surfaced in end users day-to-day tools. Dalet Media Cortex does just this. It enables media professionals to dedicate more of their time to creating and collaborating effectively and media companies to better serve their audiences with higher quality content and personalized multi-platform experiences.”

Dalet Media Cortex orchestrates combinations of cognitive services, fine-tunes the models, versions the data sets, aligns them with customers’ taxonomies, and eventually surfaces the results at various levels of the Dalet application stack to provide actionable insights and real value to the users and to the organization.

A fully managed service, Dalet Media Cortex can be deployed across the workflow within hours. Its smart metadata approach to classification automatically identifies asset type, defining key search words, sentences and terms, optimizing indexing and use of content across the organization. Seamlessly integrated within the Dalet Galaxy five and Ooyala Flex Media Platform workspace, all AI curated data is presented in a contextual manner, such as a caption or recommendation.

New Dalet Media Cortex integrations, services and feature highlights shown at IBC2019 include:

  • Ooyala Flex Media Platform Integration: Populate automatically indexed metadata to OoyalaMAM for easy curation and distribution, increasing monetization opportunities for high volume catalogs and archives.
  • Smart Captioning: Dalet Media Cortex can automate up to 90% of manual captioning work, accelerating the process five fold with high quality results. Its speech-to-text capabilities are available in more than 30 languages, opening up revenue opportunities in new markets.
  • Improved News and Editorial Workflows: Automatically tag stories and wires. New entity detection capability (locations, persons, organizations) with smart assistant facilitates associated content recommendations for stories from planning all the way through production.
  • Custom Dictionary: The custom dictionary allows users to add specific words that are relevant to an industry, a job,  and market, optimizing accuracy and results.
  • Enhanced Dalet Media Cortex API: Enables media companies to build versatile and extensive workflows leveraging a dynamic combination of microservices to optimize workflow performance (https://www.dalet.com/tools/media-cortex/).

The recent Ooyala Flex Media Platform business acquisition combined with new product introductions spanning broadcast graphics, AI-powered content and production workflows, and IP infrastructure add even greater breadth and depth to the Dalet media management capabilities.

Dalet IBC Previews 2

For new customers and markets, including corporate brands, telcos, sports teams and leagues, Dalet now offers agile, subscription-based solutions to manage multi-platform packaging and digital media distribution workflows.

“Today, the ability to launch new services quickly at reduced operational costs is essential for content owners and distributors to remain competitive, and both Dalet and Ooyala have been helping them address this challenge in our respective areas of expertise. This was one of the key drivers behind the Ooyala acquisition,” states Kevin Savina, Director of Product Strategy, Dalet. “The Ooyala Flex Media Platform, with its strong OTT content supply chain and multi-platform distribution capabilities, is a perfect complement to Dalet Galaxy five, which is the platform of choice for production-intensive and enterprise media operations. Dalet, a leading provider of solutions and services for media organizations and content professionals, today announced that it will showcase the latest version of its flagship Dalet Galaxy five platform for Media Asset Management (MAM) and Workflow Orchestration, along with two major product introductions: the Dalet Media Cortex AI services and the Dalet OnePlay new-generation studio automation solution, at the upcoming IBC2018 exhibition held in Amsterdam from September 14–18, 2018 (stand 8.B77).

“Today’s media businesses need to become more data-driven and build new paths to go direct to their consumers,” comments Arnaud Elnecave, vice president of marketing, Dalet. “This starts with a strategic investment in an open, agile technology platform with core workflow orchestration capabilities that enables a cohesive, agile digital media supply chain and puts content personalization at the forefront of the workflow design.” Elnecave elaborates, “The new products we announce at IBC2018 tackle strategic areas of your operations, bringing the entire value proposition of Dalet Galaxy five yet a level higher for your business.

Dalet Media Cortex introduces tailored, managed cognitive services that will maximize the usability and effectiveness of your content at every step of its life cycle.

Dalet OnePlay will augment shows by further optimizing the operational efficiency of your productions while enabling a much richer and personalized multiplatform experience for audiences.”

A nominee alongside Euronews for the coveted IBC2018 Innovation Awards content creation category, Dalet will showcase the new version of the market-leading Dalet Galaxy five MAM and Workflow Orchestration platform, introducing the following major enhancements:

Dalet Media Cortex – Orchestrated AI Services for Media Workflows

Unveiled at IBC2018, the new Dalet Media Cortex SaaS enables Dalet Galaxy five customers to connect and consume AI services on demand in a pay-as-you-go model. For media organizations to get full business value from their AI investment and operate at scale, they need the right method and the appropriate platform. Dalet Media Cortex makes it simple and effective. It connects and orchestrates smart combinations of cognitive services while managing all the complexity of data alignment. The AI-generated data is displayed at various levels of the Dalet Galaxy five application, in a set of new intuitive UIs, to provide contextual, actionable insights and recommendations to the users.

Dalet OnePlay – Modern Automated Studio Production

Dalet will also unveil Dalet OnePlay at IBC2018, a new-generation studio automation solution designed to modernize live production with synchronized multiplatform distribution. An extension of the Dalet Galaxy five platform, Dalet OnePlay fully leverages the MAM, NRCS and workflow orchestration capabilities to open up new forms of collaboration inside productions, automating more complex events, and eventually helping create new forms of audience engagement and revenue opportunities while optimizing costs. Dalet OnePlay benefits any sho production, making it an ideal solution for newscasts, sports magazines, live and live-to-tape studio shows. Dalet OnePlay’s modern and efficient UI and UX combined with the agile Dalet Galaxy five News Production and Workflow Orchestration platform enables custom live production workflows with more advanced collaboration and unrivaled operational flexibility, way beyond traditional automated production control solutions.

Cloud, Remote Editing and IMF Workflows

In addition to the new AI and studio automation product introductions, Dalet Galaxy five features several important enhancements that will be showcased at IBC. For hybrid on-premises and cloud deployments, the platform offers auto-scaling capabilities to balance infrastructure load and optimize costs. This new feature allows selected media processes to scale up and down automatically, according to a combination of process predictions, business rules and real-time demand.

Dalet will also showcase new remote editing capabilities that leverage the AWS infrastructure as a service resource. Dalet OneCut editors – such as journalists working in the field – can connect to the central bureau or facility to search and browse content, seamlessly mix it on their timeline with locally stored content (even in offline mode), and offload the rendering to the central site.

Elnecave adds, “The real advantage of leveraging AWS for remote editing is in the user experience. For editors connecting from the field or from another facility, the combination of S3 storage and Cloudfront gives a much more efficient workflow and a more fluid editing UX.”

A pioneer of component-based workflows, including IMF workflows industrialization, Dalet Galaxy five creates real business opportunities for global distribution. Key Dalet Galaxy five MAM and Orchestration functionality stores rich technical metadata, with workflow design tools, to automate IMF processes such as complex CPLs creation/rendering and supplemental IMF Packages management. Shown at IBC are new Dalet WebSpace tools for preview, review and approval of all objects of an IMF package, including the CPL, with a glance at the Video Timeline available on any web client, eliminating the need for mastering tools.

Dalet, a leading provider of solutions and services for broadcasters and content professionals, today announced the introduction of Dalet Content Discovery, a new module of the Dalet Galaxy five Workflow Orchestration and MAM platform that leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to build smart content recommendations for editorial and creative teams. First brought to market as part of the Dalet Unified News Operations solution, Dalet Discovery Board presents to journalists intelligent and contextual suggestions, providing greater content visibility and utilization across the newsroom.

Dalet Content Discovery leverages automatic content tagging, topic extraction and key phrase searches, orchestrating a combination of Auto Indexing and Natural Language Processing (NLP) technology. “Dalet Content Discovery aims to aid and enhance newsroom research efforts, surfacing what’s relevant for a given topic and storyline from the pool of exponentially increasing sources and inventory of content,” Kevin Savina, Director of Product Strategy, Dalet. “The first of a new generation of powerful assistants for journalism, Dalet Content Discovery combines the power of AI and ML technology with the advanced data model, the orchestration capability and a new AI integration framework of the Dalet Galaxy platform in order to not only tag and index, but also align, relate and suggest content in a contextual and meaningful way.”

Reducing the time-consuming process of manually searching for news story assets, Dalet Content Discovery intelligently sources and serves content, providing editorial resources relevant material including clips, videos, stories, pitches, wires and multimedia content as the journalist develops their story. The expanded detail enriches the news narrative with new insights and angles.

Dalet Content Discovery

The augmented media workflow starts automatically in the background with Dalet Galaxy orchestrating several types of cognitive services. Scripts and media assets are automatically enriched, generating tags that the platform then uses for smart contextual recommendations to the users, as well as for automated data-driven processes.” Savina continues, “The journalist launches Dalet Content Discovery Board, which displays suggested content that matches his/her assignments or work in progress. The suggestions automatically refresh when new relevant assets are entered into the system. Presented suggestions can include production assets, archived assets, studio guests, assets in use for other news stories as well as other similar topic stories that may be scheduled or have already been broadcasted.”

The intuitively designed Discovery Board gives journalists a snapshot of similar news stories that are in motion. This naturally invites journalists to collaborate with their colleagues on similar story topics.

Savina comments, “Collaboration across departments is a common challenge especially among large, multisite news organizations. With Dalet Content Discovery, journalists covering similar story beats, whether it be for TV, online or even radio, can easily connect on topics that require collaboration while still keeping controlled access to sensitive stories.” The visual snapshot of newsroom activity on any given topic also lets news directors easily view various story angles across different departments, allowing them to better balance the overall news lineup.

NAB 2018 attendees can see Dalet Content Discovery in action on booth SL8010.
