Dalet, a leading technology and service provider for media-rich organizations, today announced that América Televisión and Canal N channels, owned by Plural TV Group, have invested in the Dalet Unified News Operations’ solution powered by Dalet Galaxy five to consolidate news production and distribution programming for both channels under one system that fully supports personnel working in the newsroom, from home and out in the field. Based in Lima, Peru, América Televisión offers a wide range of programming from thematic talk shows, to reality programming and general news. Also based in Lima, the Canal N channel is focused on country-wide news, current affairs, and political programs.

After decades of running the two news operations with separate editorial and archive processes, the group took the transformative step to consolidate the old, siloed media infrastructure under a new Dalet solution, bringing continuity to content management and news story development. The dual-channel operational upgrade, which was led by Dalet channel partner Connect Media, included the installation of an enterprise editorial solution that provided a centralized repository to manage news wires and content, with tools to facilitate news story planning, editing, graphics, and publishing. Dalet’s story-centric approach builds the story around media assets, enabling better story evolution and content transparency and access across the two newsrooms whose missions leverage the same content for different program outcomes.

“Dalet’s news solution is designed for the way our journalists, editors, news directors, graphics, camera teams want to work,” explains Javier Vásquez Mendoza, Head of Engineer Support and Operations, América Televisión. “It is all interconnected. The centralized access to content makes it easier to evolve the story whether we are in the newsroom, in the field, or working from home as many journalists had to during pandemic restrictions.” Javier elaborates, “Dalet’s web-based tools make it easy to connect from anywhere at any point in the workflow. It’s designed to support our hybrid workflow with greater transparency into how we are using the content.”

Dalet Galaxy five consolidates news production and distribution programming for América Televisión and Canal N

Dalet’s Unified News Operations solution enables both America Televisión and Canal N to manage story development and production for on-air and web content. Dalet Brio supports 16 channels of ingest with the ability to edit late-breaking news stories as the material is being recorded onto the storage server as well as playout of all on air news packages and programs. The underlying Dalet media asset capabilities track metadata, ensuring content is highly searchable and accessible by authorized staff on-premises and off.

“Dalet’s integrated newsroom and story-centric workflow enable newsrooms like América Televisión and Canal N to reimagine their entire workflow to gain more value from their content while simultaneously supporting a more dynamic remote working scenario,” states Julian Decaix, general manager, Americas, Dalet. “However, we bring more to the table than great news software technology. We offer over two decades of experience in news and people on the ground in Peru that can help customers transform their operations, empower their teams with new workflows and move their business forward.”

América Televisión and Canal N join a growing list of South American newsrooms that are replacing legacy systems with Dalet Unified News Operations, the newsroom solution of choice for end-to-end news production, distribution and remote collaboration.

Dalet, a leading technology and service provider for media-rich organizations, today announced that Radio Televisión Nacional de Colombia (RTVC), Colombia’s national radio and TV public channel, has chosen Dalet Galaxy five to facilitate its end-to-end news operation. Based in Bogotá, RTVC offers the latest news, educational and cultural entertainment over three terrestrial channels.

Previously, RTVC had outsourced its entire news production and distribution operation to a third-party. In 2020, the government approved a project to strengthen the infrastructure, information sourcing and news production in house under RTVC’s direction and mission, giving the broadcaster full creative control over story development and distribution. The new design and installation, which was led by noted system integrator NYL Electrónica, features capabilities to manage source materials and production including wires, news story planning and development, editing and graphics, and delivery. The underlying Dalet media asset management platform centralizes content for efficient access, while the core orchestration engine automates the story-centric workflow enabling a friction-free flow of content.

Carlos Raúl González Martínez, supervising transmission engineer, RTVC, noted that, in addition to its end-to-end news solution, Dalet’s vast experience in news production was equally as important for the successful launch. “The Dalet newsroom solution has extensive capabilities that we are able to perfect into a workflow for our specific needs. We also had the support of Dalet to help us define that workflow. This was extremely important because above all for RTVC, it was Dalet’s 20 years of experience that helped create a brand-new news environment with a new team. Beyond the learning curve, there were many factors we needed to take into consideration as we designed the very best workflow for our editors, graphic designers and playout. Thanks to their sound guidance, we have a highly reliable and responsive platform for what we need today that will support us into the future.”

The mandate called for deployment within two months of contract. With COVID-19 restrictions still in full force, Dalet and NYL Electrónica led the launch efforts virtually, with only key elements such as on-premises installation and coaching of personnel, done on site and in person.

“Dalet is known for its end-to-end News capabilities and is used across South America by many national broadcasters. This gave us the confidence to agree to deploy under such strict conditions and even stricter timeline,” states Roman Becerra, general manager, NYL Electrónica.

“In addition to offering all of the required capabilities of a fully functioning newsroom, the Dalet professional services team was instrumental in getting the entire staff up to speed and on air by the deadline,” adds Daniel Villavicencio, director of support, NYL Electrónica.

Like in most countries, the pandemic has increased the number of people tuning into the news for the latest information not only on TV, but social networks as well in Colombia. The team at RTVC is currently testing the integrated Dalet social media module which provides content creation and distribution as well as analytics on audience engagement, helping RTVC fine tune what content audiences are looking for.

“Bringing the news operation in house gives RTVC greater control over the story they need to tell with Dalet providing them with the platform to tell it quickly on any medium. They can easily reuse content from the archives and visually brand their content in new ways,” states Julian Decaix, general manager, Americas, Dalet. “While Dalet has perfected the story-centric workflow, RTVC now has the foundation to centralize its entire production, including its digital and radio channels onto one platform, connecting all systems and centralizing assets for cross channel use.”

Carlos concludes with the outstanding ongoing support that ensures RTVC continues to have a positive experience, “We are in a long term relationship with Dalet and I have to emphasize that the attention and the support is always there. No waiting a week for someone to respond to your call. If we have a question or something happens that we need assistance with, we can instantly get in touch with the team. The response is immediate by people who are familiar with our situation and team members. It’s the peace of mind you want in a high pressure broadcast situation.”

Dalet, a leading technology and service provider for media-rich organizations, today announced that Swiss broadcaster BNJ, which operates four radio stations and associated websites in the Jura Arc region, has chosen Dalet Galaxy five featuring AI-driven search and automated documentation powered by SaaS-based Dalet Media Cortex, as part of its comprehensive multi-year radio business diversification vision. The new modern media infrastructure, powered by Dalet, will provide the Jura Arc’s distinct communities who put increased importance on local news and programming, with significantly more stories and story angles as well as ways to “watch” and engage with favorite radio hosts and programs.

“BNJ is a leader in local news and program production with a deep connection to the Swiss communities it serves. A major part of our growth strategy is to fully embrace the potential of multimedia radio and new digital and social platforms,” states Pierre Steulet, CEO, BNJ. “The Dalet Galaxy five upgrade and AI capabilities of Dalet Media Cortex will enhance our ability to monetize assets through video sharing on social media channels, providing audiences increasingly personalized, curated news and programming content on the medium of their choice. With production, tracking and management of content automated, our journalists, DJs and partners can focus on engaging with their audiences in new ways.”

A Dalet customer since 1999, BNJ will use Dalet Galaxy five to connect its four radio sites (GRRIF, RJB, RTN, and RFJ), creating a centralized topology that enables modern digital-first workflows, archive enrichment, and content recommendations. New editorial, video and advertising production capabilities will allow BNJ to deliver hyper targeted and better curated news, talk shows, podcasts and music programming simultaneously across traditional, digital and social channels, and generate new advertising revenue through “sharable” visual radio.

“Watching radio is a big trend,” states Johann Zemmour, General Manager, EMEA & APAC, Dalet. “Audiences want to see and share popular or controversial clips. Advertisers want their ads at the start of the clip to guarantee exposure to viewers. Dalet’s Visual Radio capabilities brings audiences closer to DJs, journalists, and the stations themselves. It amplifies branding as well as boosting overall loyalty to the station. For localized radio where stations serve specific communities, it reinforces local and regional relevance – a key objective of the BNJ group.”

Dalet Galaxy five provides the workflow orchestration and editorial platform that is equally fluent with video and audio, and fully integrable with studio equipment and services. Video and audio clips can be edited, branded and captioned with lower thirds for immediate upload to social media platforms.

News with More Story Angles and Seamless Remote Production

Mobile and Craft editing tools, Dalet OneCut and Dalet On-the-Go, provide journalists the robustness and flexibility required to assemble long and short form programs and news content for all platforms from anywhere.

Cédric Richard, IT Manager at BNJ, explains the benefits the new AI capabilities will bring to the editorial workflow. “Dalet Media Cortex will automate the indexing and documentation of all new and archived content. Relevant content discovery and timely recommendations will help journalists quickly develop new and evolving story narratives, offering audiences a greater variety of local news and programming as well as more opportunities to engage with journalists on a story of interest.”

Advertising on the Fly and Integrated Music Production Workflows

Under Dalet API integration with the advertising systems BCE StudioTalk and Winpub from Solution Informatique, music, news and promotional content – with associated video – is instantly available for program curation or on the fly with granular control. Users will be able to adjust advertising screens and insert new adverts as relevant events unfold.

BNJ will also rely on Dalet APIs to integrate a wide range of systems and services, including MusicMaster for music programming and Lawo for playout. The unified workflow will streamline processes, offering a smoother experience for DJs, journalists, promoters and audiences alike.

A robust, highly scalable solution that supports rapid media business expansion, Dalet Galaxy five can be deployed on-premises, in the cloud or in a hybrid configuration. To learn more about Dalet solutions for Radio, please visit https://www.dalet.com/solutions/radio-stations/.

Dalet, a leading technology and service provider for media-rich organizations, today announced key updates to its Dalet CubeNG platform, the powerful graphics solution for modern news workflows. Fully integrated across Dalet Unified News Operations, Dalet CubeNG leverages the Brainstorm real-time graphics engine to deliver rich 2D and 3D branding as well as engaging visual storytelling across broadcast, social and digital channels.

The scalable, enterprise-level graphics solution is used by leading broadcasters including Euronews, Mediaset and Teleticino, and now features customizable work spaces that allow users to manipulate graphics in real time during a live show. The update also adds support for working across multiple sites to allow broadcasters to create distributed graphics workflows across all their centres of operation.

Dalet CubeNG New Features at a Glance

All Dalet CubeNG capabilities, including new features announced today, are available both on-premises and in the cloud:

  • New customizable button boards: Users can customize their playout workspace with curated graphic templates that can be triggered on the fly. This allows operators to interact with the live graphics to visually tell more complex stories, keeping audiences informed and engaged.
  • Computer graphics (CG) items can now have a shortcut ID: The new Dalet CubeNG quickplay shortcut lets users quickly trigger the playout of a CG.
  • Trigger advanced interaction with graphics: Users can animate graphics like bar charts to show changes in election results over time or zoom in on a map to show exactly where a pandemic has spread. This visually summarizes detailed data and unknown reference points to simplify stories and keep audiences informed.

New customizable button boards with Dalet CubeNG

“Audiences depend on graphics to absorb key points of complex events such as pandemic data, elections or sports statistics. However, often you cannot script these stories in advance,” states Jérémy Krein, Product Manager, Dalet CubeNG. “Our latest release of Dalet CubeNG brings users time-saving tools to enhance unscripted live news with compelling graphics elements. Users can animate charts, maps and other elements on the fly, enhancing the overall news commentary. This type of interaction with graphics provides audiences with even more valuable information, thus engaging them at a deeper level.”

The solution also introduces new capabilities that enable better collaboration across multi-sites, multi-studios and remote productions with under-the-hood file-based optimizations that ensure scalability and redundancy. Broadcasters can centralize graphics playlists for multiple playout locations. Each graphics playlist can be configured to play in one specific studio or across several. New APIs allow broadcasters to automate the creation of CG playlists across the enterprise.

Dalet CubeNG designer enables users to create highly engaging graphical stories

Jérémy concludes, “A strategic component for this release was the support for enterprise operations. Some of our customers have more than 20 locations, so rather than looking to deploy in each separate location, a centralized solution made much more business sense. Dalet CubeNG gives news operators more control over their brand and visuals while simplifying the delivery on a highly scalable platform. We revamped Dalet CubeNG with a brand-new engine just over a year ago, bringing great business success.”

Dalet, a leading technology and service provider for media-rich organizations, today announced that Brussels-based BX1, has expanded its multimedia channel and content operations with the flagship Dalet Galaxy five platform. BX1, which began as a weekly local community show that aired on Belgium’s public service broadcaster RTBF in 1985, is the leading channel for Brussels-Capital Region’s French speaking community. The organization recently completed its transformation into a multimedia powerhouse offering its highly engaged audiences programs across television, radio, digital and social media. The agile production and distribution infrastructure, which is underpinned by Dalet Galaxy five, enables BX1 to prepare and deliver local news, politics, business, culture, fashion, music and sports content from a single media technology platform.

BX1 and Dalet started their collaboration in 2015. This led to the installation of Dalet News Pack the same year, a lighter-weight, packaged Dalet Galaxy five solution, allowing journalists to share media and collaborate on news stories. In 2020, the system was upgraded with the full deployment of Dalet Galaxy five with Dalet Xtend for Adobe® Premiere® Pro editing, offering all of the production and distribution capabilities that the Dalet’s Unified News Operations solution has to offer.

Cédric van Uytvanck, Technical Director since 2014, recalls: “The original objective was to professionalize BX1, and that would not have been possible without the right tools. It needed to quit the historical homemade method used by the channel. It had grown from ten to 60 employees without changing methods or the technical tools, so it was not up to date. Today, about 40 employees are working simultaneously with the Dalet solution every day.”

At first, BX1 was solely a TV station, operated by only five employees. The content struck a nerve with the local community and the station gained a loyal following, growing quickly. As BX1 matured, the audience wanted increased and better coverage, and that meant that the station needed a step change in technology and workflow. The original ad-hoc production techniques, which involved rundown management on spreadsheets, video editing on workstations unconnected to the newsroom and without a management system, were no longer viable.

Cédric explains the trajectory, “In 2020, we launched the radio station, which proved to us that choosing Dalet – and being ambitious with our technology investments – was the right strategy.”

Live output increased to seven hours per day and the lunch hour radio broadcast – now with video – was extended from 30 mins to 1h 30 mins, doubling the audience. Visual radio production is similar to TV production itself, with a more informal feel – almost like a “behind the scenes” video, and the format has proven popular with the listeners and viewers.

Cédric concludes: “We would never have been able to develop BX1 in the way we did if we had not been so ambitious for a small organization. By choosing Dalet, we avoided the mistake of buying a system that could only handle TV. We are equally fluent now in TV, radio, visual radio and podcast, as well as digital and social media with key integrations such as Adobe Premiere Pro that enable us to have a robust editorial workflow. And Dalet is right at the centre of our operations as we expand into the future.”

In addition to using Adobe Premiere Pro for advanced editing, BX1 uses the complementary Dalet OneCut editing tool for fast program turnarounds such as breaking news.

“BX1 is a great example of how Dalet’s built-in flexibility can help smaller media organizations grow without overreaching their financial or human resources,” says Dalet’s General Manager for EMEA & APAC, Johann Zemmour. “All BX1’s journalists now move effortlessly between TV, studio work, radio and digital – a perfect example of Dalet Unified News Operations. Not only can they work across multiple digital distribution formats, but can spread across multiple physical sites. The full commercial and audience engagement potential for visual radio is realized with the new upgrade. We’re proud of our part in bringing this ambitious media organization’s vision into an everyday reality.”

Dalet, a leading technology and service provider for media-rich organizations, today announced Dalet Pyramid, its next generation solution for Unified News Operations. Designed to accelerate the evolution of news organizations and serve distributed teams, Dalet Pyramid ushers in a new era of agility, flexibility and mobility for content creation.  It provides an integrated solution for news production, content management and multi-platform distribution, all accessible through a web-based user experience. Offered on a subscription basis, the solution can be natively deployed in the cloud, on-premises or in a hybrid configuration.

Dalet Pyramid - Planning

Dalet Pyramid wraps all of Dalet’s news innovation within a modern workspace with natively integrated tools that enable 360-storytelling and faster breaking news across all viewing platforms. News producers can create content from anywhere for all audiences with sophisticated media asset management and orchestration powering all ingest, production, delivery and archive workflows. Propelling digital-first multiplatform workflows, the new solution is designed to offer remote workforces comprehensive editorial, graphics and distribution tools accessible from desktop and mobile devices.

“Editorial and production teams need to collaborate more efficiently on stories for all platforms from any location. Conversely, audiences love their news and want access on their favorite device, at all times,” said Raoul Cospen, Director of Product Strategy, News at Dalet.

“Tying your story line-up to a rundown limits production workflows and the efficiency for stories to be delivered across platforms. With more than two-thirds of newsrooms distributing content to an average of four platforms, it is a natural next step to refocus the newsroom away from rundowns and reimagine their operations. Dalet Pyramid gives news professionals the creative freedom to focus on the story, with collaborative tools and efficient resource planning to feed all audience platforms. It’s a holistic news experience that enables great storytelling.”

Dalet Pyramid - Mobility

Encompassing 20 years of Dalet expertise in news workflows, Dalet Pyramid’s digital-first content production approach offers outstanding mobility for individuals and teams working remotely as well as agility and flexibility for storytelling across radio, TV, digital and web.

Raoul explains, “With Dalet Pyramid we have completely revamped the user workspace to offer an exceptional creative experience and all the conveniences you expect from a modern architecture including native-cloud support, configurable workflows, scalability, enterprise-level security, frequent feature updates and accessibility across devices. It’s one platform to serve your entire multichannel news operations.”

Dalet Pyramid - Web Editor

With Dalet Pyramid, production tasks such as ingest, scripting, audio and video editing, digital versioning and graphics are always connected to the story, enabling multi-user collaboration and speeding up news delivery to audiences. Advanced AI capabilities automate metadata tagging and provide real-time contextual recommendations, saving valuable time logging and searching content while optimizing use of all relevant assets for editorial.

Raoul Cospen provides deeper insights on Dalet Pyramid and its benefits in this video interview.

Architected for Fast Deployment and Total Control over Resources and Budgets

Dalet Pyramid can be set up for cloud, on-premises or hybrid operations. The intuitive configuration module and open APIs give greater control to system administrators, requiring less ramp-up time. Customers opting for cloud will benefit from immense flexibility and elasticity in managing resource fluctuations, with the ability to spin up additional seats when immediate user access is needed, without the need to increase capital investment.

Flexible Business Model, More Frequent Release Cycles and Elasticity

Dalet Pyramid will be offered in a range of flexible business models, such as subscription and SaaS, enabling news organizations to calculate resource costs with precision. Shorter development cycles and regular updates ensure users are up to date with the latest functionality with minimal operational disruption.

Raoul concludes, “The subscription and usage-based business models give our customers tremendous visibility and a real opportunity to lower their TCO.”

Your stories, infinite possibilities

Dalet, a leading provider of solutions and services for broadcasters and content professionals, announced today the release of its next generation platform for news graphics and workflows, Dalet CubeNG. Fully integrated across the Dalet Unified News Operations solution powered by Dalet Galaxy five, the state-of-the-art, full-featured Dalet CubeNG graphics platform leverages the industry-leading Brainstorm real-time graphics engine to deliver superior 2D and 3D branding and visuals. Suited for both on-air and file-based graphics creation, the Dalet CubeNG unified approach enables news broadcasters to easily create dynamic branding and up-level visual storytelling across traditional, digital and social channels.

“Great graphics play a key role in impactful storytelling and deepening viewer engagement. The expansive capabilities of Dalet CubeNG powered by the Brainstorm graphics engine is a significant upgrade for what our Dalet Galaxy five news customers can achieve in terms of creating riveting visual narratives across all distribution channels,” comments Kevin Savina, Director of Product Strategy, Dalet.

A major upgrade to the existing Dalet Cube graphics platform, Dalet CubeNG offers a redesigned, highly scalable architecture and modern web-based UI. The embedded, high-performance Brainstorm real-time 3D graphics engine significantly expands on-air and file-based graphics capabilities with its support for 4K and user-defined options, added primitives for building 2D and 3D graphics, support for Unicode fonts and languages, and outstanding transition logic. Noted news broadcasters that rely on the Brainstorm real-time graphics engine include CNBC, NHK, RAI, RTHK, RTVE, TVN and many others.

“Brainstorm’s real-time graphics engine has proven its power, flexibility and reliability in hundreds of installations all over the world,” says David Alexander, Brainstorm’s Commercial Director. “And we are now very excited with this new opportunity, forging a long-term relationship with Dalet by working together to provide news broadcasters with state-of-the-art features and a very versatile toolset with the Brainstorm engine at the core of Dalet CubeNG. The ease, speed and flexibility of content creation offered by the new Dalet CubeNG, which are well recognised hallmarks of Brainstorm’s graphics engine, empower broadcasters with greater capabilities to better engage with their audiences and enhance the viewer experience with more visually attractive graphics and improved storytelling.”

Feature highlights of the new Dalet CubeNG include:

  • Advanced Materials and Objects – Thanks to the Brainstorm graphics engine, Dalet CubeNG supports a wide range of objects including spheres, curves and arrows with extensive control over parameters. It also includes a particle generator for creating visual effects such as fire, smoke, rain and more, and other special objects that can be dynamically linked to external data parameters.
  • Font and Text Management – Dalet CubeNG offers full control over 2D and 3D text including size, texture, shading and mapping. It also includes support for Unicode fonts and a wide range of languages including Arabic, Chinese, Cyrillic, Japanese, Korean and Thai.
  • Format and Resolution Independent – Dalet CubeNG is resolution independent and supports HD, 2K, 4K, 8K, UHD and beyond, as well as digital and social graphics formats and workflows.
  • Tweet to Graphics – No story is complete until it’s been posted on social; the moment users transform a tweet into a graphic, that graphic becomes an object within Dalet that journalists can either schedule in a production rundown or play out on-air with the news package.
  • Ease-of-Use – Dalet CubeNG features simple-to-use tools and tight integration with Dalet Galaxy five that facilitate the adoption of graphics creation and use across the newsroom.

Fully integrated with Dalet Galaxy five, Dalet CubeNG gives news broadcasters a complete solution for building impactful graphics to enhance a news story. Thanks to this native connection, changes to graphics can be made on playback, with advanced support for updating behavior and conditions. Users can add CG elements into the video project for either playout or burn-in, and graphics will trigger automatically at playout wherever the journalists placed CGs on the timeline. With total control of graphics playout with the on-air video operator, news teams can better allocate resources and improve operations all around.  Dalet Galaxy five tracks every graphic object, allowing graphic designers, journalists, producers and other staff to search on any and every graphic element, making it easier than ever to repurpose graphics and objects, keeping a broadcaster’s brand consistent across all distribution outlets while maintaining efficiency.

Dalet, a leading provider of solutions and services for media organizations and content professionals, today announced that Philippines media group ABS-CBN Corporation has deployed Dalet Unified News Operations powered by the Dalet Galaxy five Media Asset Management (MAM), Workflow Orchestration and Editorial platform, at its regional Cebu City station. The turnkey news solution deployed by Dalet enables the broadcaster to break news faster and offers the agility to expand seamlessly to support multi-site workflows.

ABS-CBN Corporation, headquartered in Quezon City, is the Philippines’ largest entertainment and media conglomerate by revenue, assets, and number of employees. The group owns and operates the ABS-CBN television network which includes the flagship national channel ABS-CBN as well as regional radio networks.

An existing Dalet customer, the ABS-CBN group invested in Dalet in 2008 to manage the facility-wide media asset management and archiving workflow which resulted in the digitization of 21-years’ worth of material. The investment also enabled ABS-CBN to add new media channels for web and mobile TV. The new Dalet deployment upgrades the broadcaster’s Cebu news production capabilities and lays the foundation for further strategic enhancements.

“Previously, we had no studio automation at our Cebu City station and were laying programs to tape for playout with no ability to save news programs. We needed to move to a solution that would automate our workflows, better support our social channels and enable future expansion,” explains Leilani Alba, Station Head for ABS-CBN Cebu. “Backed by 10 years’ of trust and collaboration with Dalet we knew we could rely on their proven technology and professional services for this important project. With Dalet, we have transformed and simplified our operations by moving to a single solution that manages the end-to-end production and playout of news. We are already seeing the value of our assets increase by being able to track and gather metadata at all points across the news story development.”

The Dalet Unified News Operations solution is powered by the market-leading Dalet Galaxy five platform. The built-in Dalet NRCS functionality includes agency wire acquisition, collaborative planning, script editing, notifications and approval processes, rundown and graphics management with full timing control, and many other features. Designed for journalists, the embedded Dalet OneCut multimedia editor enables easy and fast news editing at every desktop. The Dalet AmberFin media processing farm transcodes any incoming content into the mezzanine format, making it immediately available for use across the station. Dalet Brio video servers deliver rock-solid performance and high-density ingest and playout.

“Designed as a fully packaged, end-to-end, newsroom solution, Dalet Unified News Operations offers tremendous value to ABS-CBN. They can now break news faster thanks to a streamlined, fully integrated and automated news workflow. In addition, ABS-CBN can amplify their social media and digital output to meet the needs of new audiences,” says Cesar Comacho, general manager, Dalet Asia Pacific.  “ABS-CBN has a platform they can grow with and realize future ambitions, including connection to its main hub and regional radio networks. Since the system fully supports HD from ingest to playout, the infrastructure is ready for them to transition.” Comacho concludes, “The ease of deployment and the excellent working relationship we have is reflected in the fact that we were able to get the Cebu newsroom up running in just two months.”

Dalet, a leading provider of solutions and services for media organizations and content professionals, today announced that Times Network, India’s leading broadcast network, has deployed the Dalet Galaxy media asset management (MAM) and workflow orchestration platform to optimize content utilization and accelerate delivery for its 24/7 news channel “Times NOW”. With a global presence across 100 countries, Times Network houses upscale brands including TIMES NOW, ET NOW, Mirror NOW, Movies NOW & Movies NOW  HD, MN+, Romedy NOW & Romedy NOW HD, MNX & MNX HD and Zoom, each of which informs, entertains and engages viewers.

“Times Network is the leading broadcast network in India,” states K Yegneshwara Iyer, Senior Vice President & Head of Technology, Times Network. “To sustain this momentum and always be the first to break news, we moved to adopt a platform that could digitalize the archives as well as integrate our media silos, ultimately managing the entire media supply chain for the Times Network. Dalet was the best partner for this mission. Their platform allows us to bring all our content into one place and create seamless access for our users, with tools and intelligence to manage multiple workflows across several locations and business units.”

By connecting siloed production and post-production teams and systems across Mumbai and Delhi, Dalet Galaxy enables a comprehensive workflow transformation that gives “Times NOW” a first-to-air breaking news workflow that encompasses the complete story. Key to the transformation was the digitization and integration of Times Network archives. No longer do staff need to manually review archive logs, request media from the archivist, and wait for the content to complete the story. Dalet WebSpace provides immediate access to all content with tools to assemble stories that contain a mix of freshly shot and archival media.

With archives fully integrated and digitized, the “Times NOW” archivists are freed from manual search and retrieval of taped media. They can focus their time on enriching the digital content with metadata, making it more searchable and accessible across the entire group. This creates a fluid content supply chain that optimizes content usage, ultimately helping Times NOW journalists enhance their storytelling.

“More than creating a friction-free workflow for breaking news, Dalet Galaxy is enabling Times Network to move away from a pay-per-month archive digitization process to a fully owned and managed digital workflow that optimizes content utilization. This is a business benefit that enables them to be more systemic in the way they manage and distribute their content across the entire business operation,” states Johann Zemmour, General Manager, Dalet APAC and EMEA.

Dalet, a leading provider of solutions and services for broadcasters and content professionals, will showcase its new Dalet Remote Editing framework at NAB 2019 (booth SL6610). The highly scalable framework brings the full-featured multimedia editing capabilities and speed to the editors working in the field or at remote offices without requiring a PAM/MAM at every location.

Media organizations in fast-paced production markets such as news, sports and reality TV often have extensive in-the-field production needs that are critical to their business. Unmitigated access to content located at the central hub and accelerated media exchange from the field to home and back are paramount for success. The Dalet Remote Editing framework securely connects journalists, producers, editors and other content creators to the central content hub, enabling the in-the-field/remote users to edit, assemble, collaborate and quickly submit packages or download high-resolution media to finalize locally even in low-bandwidth situations.

The first release of the new Dalet Remote Editing framework will support Dalet OneCut natively with subsequent updates supporting Dalet Xtend-compatible third-party editing applications.

“With the Dalet Remote Editing framework, video editors located just about anywhere have the same robust editing experience as those editors located within the four walls of the central hub, even when they have a degraded network connection,” states Golan Tsarfaty, editing product line manager, Dalet. “Most Dalet customers want to centralize content resources in the main hub yet have a local presence via their remote bureaus, freelancers or simply people working in the field. This new Remote Editing framework provides a gateway to optimize content sharing across multiple locations without requiring the deployment of a MAM or PAM beyond the central hub.”

The Dalet Remote Editing framework leverages the AWS infrastructure and Dalet smart-caching technology to eliminate problematic security, latency and other roadblocks that usually limit remote productions, transforming the entire in-the-field video editing experience and workflow for both users and media companies.

“It solves two key issues. First, it offers a high-quality user experience when editing content from anywhere; and second, it simplifies the network configurations and infrastructure management for access to central content by remote users,” Tsarfaty adds. “It’s an incredible technical innovation that is going to help our customers make a quantum leap forward with regards to mobility at work, remote productions and working with freelancers.”

Dalet Remote Editing framework workflows shown at NAB 2019

At NAB 2019, Dalet will demonstrate how the new editing framework lets journalists working in the field share with the central hub content they’ve captured locally, via a secure HTTPS Internet connection. Simultaneously, they will show how journalists preparing a story while on the go can preview and pull in content from the central catalog or the archive, and mix it with locally captured footage, using a stand-alone editor.

In addition to the in-the-field journalist workflow, Dalet teams will demonstrate the efficient cross-site video editing and collaboration capabilities the new framework brings for content exchange between bureaus and sites. “One of the big challenges media organizations faced in enabling a proper in-the-field/remote editing workflow was the costly and somewhat limiting infrastructure available to them,” Tsarfaty explains. “Dedicated hardware, added layers of security for accessing the central hub, and VPN scenarios limited the ability to deploy truly robust remote production workflows and scale at will. These typical setups also hindered the user collaboration and overall experience as you still experienced latency and access issues. With Dalet Remote Editing, there is no overhead. You can scale your productions as you need, pay for infrastructure as you go, and offer the video editing experience your staff requires to create outstanding content, efficiently and quickly, from anywhere. NAB Show attendees will be able to see how this is done right on the Dalet booth.”

NAB 2019 attendees can book a private demonstration or workflow consultation with a Dalet expert to learn more about the new Dalet Galaxy five remote editing framework here.

Dalet, a leading provider of solutions and services for broadcasters and content professionals, announced today that they have been shortlisted alongside Euronews for the IBC2018 Innovation Awards content creation category. Lauded as one of the most coveted awards in the media industry, the competitive competition celebrates technical and creative excellence, acknowledging collaboration between organizations like Euronews and Dalet to achieve clever and innovative solutions for real business challenges.

“We are honored to be nominated for the IBC2018 Innovation Award with our technology partner Dalet,” says Francois Schmitt, COO, Euronews. “With the help of Dalet and our other partners, we were able to achieve our vision and become the world’s first truly ‘Glocal’ news channels, providing our audiences important global headlines with perspectives and viewpoints relevant to their regions, cultures and communities. We thank the IBC Innovation Award judges for recognizing this incredible technical feat and Dalet for working alongside with us on this exciting journey.”

Euronews had been addressing the region’s need for multilingual programming by providing a single channel of news programming with identical video and English-only graphics delivered to countries with 12 different language versions. Groundbreaking when Euronews had originally launched in 1993, the “Multiplex” approach to broadcasting lacked the ability to adapt programming to the specific needs of individual countries, a limitation for today’s viewers who crave customized content. With multiculturalism as a core value, management sought to better connect global content with local audiences, transforming Euronews into a “Glocal” media brand.

“This project perfectly coincides with Dalet’s values of innovation, passion, and multiculturalism,” comments Johann Zemmour, general manager, EMEA & APAC at Dalet. “Collaborating with the same ideals and vision, we were able to leverage the advanced media asset management and orchestration capabilities of the Dalet Galaxy platform to construct one of the world’s most technically advanced newsrooms, empowering Euronews journalists to collaborate and turn any local or global topic into compelling news stories with perspectives and insights that resonate with their respective audiences.”

The legacy Euronews infrastructure had limited news to a “one-size-fits-all” with journalists relying on technicians to package non-localized news story with 11 voice-overs. The lack of system integration pushed news air times to an hour or more. To transform the operation, Euronews implemented Dalet’s component-based workflow powered by the Dalet Galaxy Media Asset Management and Orchestration platform, featuring federated editorial tools that empower the 500 journalists and a workflow engine that maximizes and automates complex, custom content delivery operations. The successful Euronews transformation, which saw no change in staff, increased television content production by 100%, feeding its newly launched 12 individual channels fresh content with a local perspective. It also increased Euronews digital content output by 20%, growing its online audiences by 66%.

“We are incredibly proud that the Euronews project has been shortlisted for an IBC Innovation Award and want to extend our appreciation to our technical partners on the project, PEAKS, who we collaborated with closely to bring the Euronews vision to life, and Adobe,” adds Zemmour. Technical project partner PEAKS provided a total redesign of the Euronews website and Dalet Galaxy integrated CMS to achieve a true 360° Newsroom that can produce up to 350 stories a day, reaching more than 13.5 million digital-users.

Dalet, a leading provider of solutions and services for broadcasters and content professionals, announced today that Chilean Broadcaster Mega TV is revamping its operations with the Dalet Unified News Operations solution powered by Dalet Galaxy, the leading Media Asset Management (MAM), Orchestration and Editorial platform for news production and distribution. Key to the decision is the agility of the Dalet platform and its ability to meet the future requirements of Mega TV, supporting traditional as well as new-generation digital and social media news production and distribution workflows.

A Dalet customer since 2012, Mega TV is one of Latin America’s highest-flying free-to-air broadcast networks and the first private broadcaster in Chile. Headquartered in Santiago, the channel is among the country’s most watched with its line-up of sitcoms, magazine shows and daily news shows including “Ahora Noticias.”

“We are keen to expand our footprint and to better engage audiences with the best news content across all possible viewing and listening platforms,” explains Saúl Ureta, Technical Manager for Mega TV. “As we seek to grow our broadcast portfolio we were faced with a strategic decision. Do we work with independent production and post-production systems which might create silos in our workflow, or do we plan for the future and build a collaborative and highly efficient workflow for news that spans across all our channels? Our experience with Dalet convinced us that the platform was able to evolve and meet all our new requirements by accommodating many different operating and organizational models, latest standards & content formats, as well as a wide palette of integrations and connectors. The Dalet Unified News Operations solution in particular offers a much more fluid way of working as well as integrated tools for remote production and collaboration. The solution also comes with a full social media framework that empowers our teams to better engage with their audiences on social media as part of their everyday workflow.”

The comprehensive solution will be implemented together with Dalet business partner Zer Digital.

Dalet Unified News Operations not only replaces Mega TV’s existing newsroom computer system and news production system, it will bring a number of new tools and collaborative processes. Journalists, reporters and producers will be able to share assignments, stories and any assets, accessing a single system and toolset via configurable workspaces. Dalet WebSpace and the Dalet On-the-Go mobile app extend capabilities into the field, allowing authorized users to be part of connected workflows. The broadcaster will also leverage Dalet’s Social Media framework and award-winning Dalet Social Media Panel to harvest, plan, produce and deliver content efficiently to Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, while gathering more data about the audiences and their engagement. Dalet Brio is core to the solution’s ingest and playout transactions of live news shows. The Dalet AmberFin media processing platform will be used for high-quality transcoding. Content packages will be crafted on Adobe® Premiere® Pro CC. The Adobe application is brought seamlessly into the collaborative workflow via Dalet Xtend. All of these are native or tightly coupled components controlled and orchestrated by Dalet Galaxy, which integrates with Mega TV’s content management system.

“Continuing and enhancing our five-year old partnership with Mega TV is significant not just to support the development of their operations and business, but also for Dalet’s growing footprint and reputation within the wider South American market,” comments Julien Decaix, General Manager Americas, Dalet. “Mega TV has fully demonstrated its ambition to be a forward-thinking and innovative broadcaster. Dalet is proud to be a strategic technical partner in this endeavor. In just about every country on the continent from Colombia to Brazil, Dalet is excited to be making inroads as a growing number of leading broadcasters choose to deploy Dalet’s future-proof solutions over boxed products in order to facilitate a more comprehensive digital transformation.”

Dalet, a leading provider of solutions and services for broadcasters and content professionals, announced that BBC Wales has selected the enterprise Dalet Galaxy Media Asset Management (MAM) and Orchestration platform to facilitate all workflows and asset management requirements at its new state-of-the-art media facility located in Cardiff, Wales. Once deployed, Dalet Galaxy will offer a centralized content repository and provide tools to orchestrate workflows and media processes across production, news, studios and delivery departments. The massive installation design and multi-year deployment will be managed by Dalet Professional Services, which will ensure customer success in the transformation journey towards agility and maximize return on investment (ROI).

“BBC Wales is pleased to be working with Dalet to provide an asset management system for our new home in Central Square, Cardiff.  Dalet was chosen after a very competitive process, and will provide an important part of the technology solution at Central Square within a state of the art broadcast centre.  We are looking forward to the successful delivery of the project,” comments Gareth Powell, Chief Operating Officer, BBC Wales.

As the core media hub, Dalet Galaxy will be deployed as the cornerstone of the new digital facility. All systems and sub-systems deployed in future phases will connect to this hub. The state-of-the-art, BPMN-compliant Dalet Workflow Engine will enable the BBC to orchestrate a combination of user tasks and media services ranging from ingest, transcoding and QC, to logging, editing, media packaging and distribution. A simple-to-use workflow designer interface allows users to model business processes, picking from a palette of stencils operations such as user tasks and notifications, media and metadata services, gateways, timeout and error management, and much more.

Dalet, a leading provider of solutions and services for broadcasters and content professionals, announces that Euronews just completed a strategic transformation that puts content customization for local audiences at the heart of its operation. The pioneering multicultural news provider replaced its legacy broadcast infrastructure with the Dalet Unified News Operations solution, transitioning from a single multi-language channel to 12 separate cross-platform channels, tailored to local audiences. The 500 users across Euronews’ four major offices in Athens, Brussels, Budapest and Lyon are connected and collaborating on a single environment, relying daily on the power and the agility of the Dalet Galaxy platform for the production, orchestration and delivery of their stories.

“Customization is at the heart of this transformation. Euronews will adapt its output to the needs of the consumers it serves, empowering the uniqueness of our multiculturalism,” said Michael Peters, CEO of Euronews. “Thanks to the substantial investment in Euronews core capabilities and operations, we are creating a robust, agile and innovative organization to become the first global News brand by reinventing our approach to broadcast journalism from production to distribution.”

Euronews

Since its inception in 1993, Euronews has been addressing the region’s need for multilingual programming by providing a single channel of news programming with identical video and English-only graphics delivered to all countries with 12 different language translations. Groundbreaking in its day, this “Multiplex” approach lacked the ability to adapt programming to the specific needs of individual countries, a critical limitation for today’s viewers.

In response, Euronews made a strategic decision to re-orientate its approach to news reporting by generating adapted content with enhanced graphics across TV, social media and the web in 12 different languages for audiences in 165 countries. The broadcaster’s outdated, inflexible legacy infrastructure was identified as a technology blocker in this transformation. Euronews decided that Dalet could best support both the “Monoplex” localized content workflows and the “Multiplex” mandatory content workflows.

“We have been operating a ‘one size fits all’ policy since launch because that was the limit of the software we were using,” explains Duncan Hooper, Digital Editor in Chief, Euronews. “We found that we could no longer take our brand or product further so we brought in Dalet to help us break out of those limits and to create a specific identity for each channel with content customized for each audience.”

Euronews

Central to the initiative was the adoption of an agile, collaborative technology solution that gives more control to journalists as well as other editorial and creative personnel, and reduces dependency on technicians. With Dalet, Euronews now stores all assets in a single, unified environment, enabling a smooth automated flow of content from ingest to output, and more importantly seamless collaboration.

Francois Schmitt, Euronews COO, explains, “When you embark on a project like this, you don’t really know the target in every detail so it’s vital to have a very flexible solution, which enables you to design as you wish for each platform and each particular station. The Dalet platform allows us to better manage our complex multiplatform production while making it simpler for our users. Journalists can collaborate better, share content seamlessly, and transform an original story with minimal effort to adapt it for each language and audience.”

With Dalet, Euronews is now producing more than double the amount of television content that it did under its legacy infrastructure. Additionally, by synchronizing the production of content between its TV and digital platforms, Euronews is producing 20% more digital platform content than before the adoption of the Dalet Unified News Operations solution.

Hooper explains: “The most positive thing about the Dalet system for all the journalists has been their empowerment. They are no longer reliant on other people to make things happen since they can create content and publish online, on social and on TV. They then have the power to adapt the content to tell the story that they want to tell rather than having to tell the same on each platform regardless of language. Dalet has enabled us to give more individuality to our storytelling.”

“Euronews has made amazing strides in achieving the goals outlined by its management team,” says Arnaud Elnecave, Vice President of Marketing, Dalet. “The Dalet Unified News Operations solution is a perfect fit for the broadcaster’s vision and commitment to innovation. Dalet’s proven expertise and flexible approach to such large-scale transformation projects were particularly important to help Euronews teams successfully achieve this strategic change.”
